The Uttarakhand government has announced on Thursday for the establishment of Uttarakhands first National University for Law at Bhawali in Nainital district.
Decision to set up the university in the state, was taken at a meeting of top officials from higher education and law departments including secretary (higher education) Maneesha Pawar, chaired by chief secretary Subhash Kumar here at the Secretariat. Talking to reporters here, chief minister Harish Rawat said he has asked Kumaon divisional commissioner (DC) and Nainital DM to look out for suitable land at Bhawali in Nainital, to set up the university.
"I have asked chief secretary Kumar and other top officials concerned to study the pattern of National Law universities set up at Hyderabad and Banglore before beginning the process for opening the university in the state," said Rawat. Rawat said that Uttarakhand high court’s chief justice will be the vice-chancellor of the upcoming university while the Chief Justice of India of the Supreme Court will be the chancellor. According to the CM, some seats for will be reserved for Uttarakhand students for admission in the university.
