On an account of promoting tourism in Nainital, the state tourism department has prepared a roadmap to make the city easily accessible. The project titled "Mission Statement 2015" aims at some of the most basic concerns of the people such as parking facilities, traffic management, garbage disposal, pollution control and beautification of pedestrian sites such as Mall Road.
Project manager Balwant Singh Rawat said a 1.5 km cantilever walkway will be constructed around the Naini Lake. "The project also aims at preserving old buildings and historical structures such as churches, libraries and schools. Around 3.5 km track leading to Tip N Top and ‘China Peak will be maintained to make the journey to these spots easy. The Mall Road where most tourists prefer to take a walk will be our main focus. It will be made more spacious and will be lighted with Victorian poles," he said.
The tourism department will work closely with the Nainital Municipal Corporation and will help in identifying the problems plaguing the city. During the peak season there is a massive inflow of tourists which leads to several problems such as traffic jams and rise in pollution levels. People from all over the country visit Nainital, especially during the summer break.
