The Flatts, as the name refer, is a vast flattened area. The Flatts is a major hub for recreation activities, a meeting point for local folks and tourists too. Located at the northern side of Naini Lake, the Flatts is the home of numerous sporting activity in its recreational grounds. Frequently Polo, Cricket, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Throw Ball and Boxing tournaments organised in the Flatts grounds by schools and clubs.
A best hang out place for locals and visitor, the Flatts offers many activities and places to enjoy. Spicy Chaat Bazaar, fountain with a Pt. Govind-Ballabh Pant statue, a shopper delight Bhutia Market or Tibetan Market famous for clothes, accessries, bags etc, Naina Devi temple, Capitol cinema theatre, a Roller Skating rink and religious Mosque, Gurudwara are more than enough places to fall in love with the Flatts.
History of ‘The Flatts’
A tragic incident in 1880, a deadly landslide from the Sher ka Danda ridge killed 151 people. The Victorian Hotel, Bells’ Shop and Naina Devi Temple completely succumbed in the landslide. In 1883, Naina Devi temple was reconstructed but other were not rebuilt and flattened, cemented to build a vast flat area extensively used for cultural fairs and festivals.
