Snow view point is a major attraction in Nainital located at a height of 2270 mtrs above sea level. Snow view point as name suggest, offers scintillating and majestic snow capped mountains of himalayan range like Nanda Devi, Trishul and Nanda Kot. An outdated plaque informing ‘The Highest Mountain in the British Empire’ about Nanda Devi also can be seen. Now after the absorbtion of Sikkim (Kanchenjunga), Nanda devi is not the highest peak of India.
Located at a 3 km distance from main town of Nainital, well connected by road, aerial ropeway or cable car, Snow view point can also be reached on foot or on Ponies. About 3 kms from the town and also accessible via a Cable Car/ Rope Way. On Snow view point, large binoculars are available to watch panorama of Nainital town and valley from close. Photographers, tea and snack shops are also available on snow view point.
A temple on snow view houses the images of Durga, Shiva, Sita, Rama, Lakshaman and Hanuman. On surpassing Snow View one can visit a tibetan monastery Gadhan Kunkyop Ling Gompa of the Gelukpa order. Their spiritual leader is the Dalai Lama.
