Nainital Zoo is the only zoo in Uttarakhand state and one of the well maintained and famous zoo in India. Named as ‘Bharat Ratna Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant High Altitude Zoo Nainital’, it is located at at an height of 2100 mtr above sea level. In Sher ka Danda hill, this zoo is the home of several endangered species and well serving its objective to conserve and protect the wildlife and maintain biodiversity of hilly region of Uttarakhand.

Spread over an area of 4.693 Hectare, this high altitude zoo has following species:

Nainital Zoo is managed by ‘The Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant High Altitude Zoo Management Society Nainital’ with the funds collected from entry fee. Number of species in the zoo are also adopted by people. It was stablished in 1984 but opened for visitors by June 1, 1995.

Entry Fee:

For Adult- Rs 50/-

For Children- Rs 20/-

Camera Fee: Rs 25/-

Professional Video Camera Fee: Rs 200/-


  • Free entry is provided for senior citizens and disabled people. 
  • Students get free entry on World Environment Day, Zoo Foundation Day, Ozone Day and during Wild Life Week.


9:30 am to 4:30 pm

Closed on Mondays, Holi, Diwali.

How To Reach Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant High Altitude Zoo Nainital

Nainital Zoo is located at about 2 km. from Tallital Bus station and well connected by motorable road. Jeep facility at Rs 30 per person is frequently available from Mall road and private vehicles are prohibited. One can also walk to the zoo easily.
